Peace News

The monthly anti-militarist and pacifist newspaper Peace News

Peace News is written and produced by and for activists, campaigners and radical academics from all over the world. Housmans Bookshop is a sister company of Peace News, publishers of the monthly peace movement paper.

Both companies are subsidiaries of Peace News Trustees, the company which owns the building housing them both.

War Resisters International

Co-ordinating office for affiliated pacifist groups around the world.

War Resisters' International was founded in 1921 under the name "Paco". It was and is based on the WRI declaration:

"War is a crime against humanity. I am therefore determined not to support any kind of war, and to strive for the removal of all causes of war"

War Resisters' International exists to promote nonviolent action against the causes of war, and to support and connect people around the world who refuse to take part in war or the preparation of war.

On this basis, WRI works for a world without war

Voices in the Wilderness UK

Campaigning in defence of Iraqi people against sanctions and war

Providing information and raising awareness about US/UK policy on Iraq and helping to organise and promote grassroots activism here in the UK in solidarity with the Iraqi people.

Along with a sister group in the US Voices for Creative Nonviolence Voices in the Wilderness have been working on US/UK policy towards Iraq since 1998.

Campaigning against:

  • The devastating economic sanctions that killed hundreds of thousands during the 1990s
  • The bombing of Iraq from December 1998 to March 2003, which killed at least 100 Iraqi civilians
  • The illegal invasion and military occupation of Iraq
  • Campaign Against Climate Change

    The Campaign against Climate Change brings people together to push for the urgent and resolute action we need to prevent the catastrophic destabilisation of global climate

    No Sweat

    No Sweat exists to fight against sweatshop exploitation. Organising solidarity for sweatshop workers from the UK to the four corners of the world. Standing for workers' self-organisation, international solidarity and for the right to organise in every workplace

    The Campaign Against Arms Trade (CAAT) works for the reduction and ultimate abolition of the international arms trade, together with progressive demilitarisation within arms-producing countries

    Campaign for Nuclear disarmament

    Housmans is affiliated to the Campaign for Nuclear disarmament

    CND campaigns non-violently to rid the world of nuclear weapons and other weapons of mass destruction and to create genuine security for future generations

    CND opposes all nuclear and other weapons of mass destruction: their development, manufacture, testing, deployment and use or threatened use by any country

    Freedom Press bookshop is Britain's largest anarchist bookshop, stocking thousands of books, newspapers and pamphlets on history to sex, philosophy to workers' struggles, fiction to anti-fascism. They also have a range of political t-shirts, CDs, posters and videos.

    They have large amounts of free materials, and a small second-hand section with low low prices! The bookshop is open Monday to Saturday 12pm till 6pm but it probably makes sense to give them a ring first on 020 7247 9249
