Failed
States, Noam Chomsky, was £16.99, is £15.29 The United States
has repeatedly asserted its right to use military force against "failed states"
around the world. In this much anticipated follow-up to his international bestseller
Hegemony or Survival, Noam Chomsky turns the tables, showing how the US
itself shares features with other failed states- and is therefore increasingly
a danger to it's own people and to the world.
Inventing the Axis of Evil, Cumings,
was £8.99, is £8.09 Leading experts on the three states classified
by the USA as "the Axis of Evil" set the record straight, confronting relentless
fear-mongering with hard facts. Exploring each country's history and internal
politics alongside the spotty record of past US interventions, while at the same
time entertaining no illusions about often despotic regimes.
Iran in Crisis, Roger Howard was £15.99, is
£14.39 "This is a wonderfully topical book. As well-researched as it
is readable, it delves into the mystery and history that makes Iran the country
it is today: puzzling and provocative yet proud and pragmatic. Much more complex
than the neo-cons and bible-belters in the United States affect to think." - Sir
David Gore-Booth, former Middle East Director, British Foreign Office.

Iraq in Fragments, was £20.00, is £19.00 not yet published - we
will send it as soon as it's out "Packed with detail and informed by a real understanding
of the fears and ambitions of many of the Iraqi political actors. This complex
story of idealism, greed and violence, woven through social formations and the
pale institutions of the emerging Iraqi state, produces a compelling account of
the 'new Iraq'." - Dr. Charles Tripp, SOAS, author of A History of Iraq.
Strategic Terror, Beau Grosscup, was £15.99 is £14.39 This
is a must-read book for these highly militarised times. Grosscup shows us that
the present-day use 0f indiscriminate bombing with its high casualty rates among
civilians has a long troubling history.
Enemy Combatant, Moazzam Begg, was £18.99, is £17.09 [Watch
for news of a Housmans event in connection with this title.] Moazzam Begg is an
ordinary man who has endured an extrodinary fate - he is one of the nine Britons
who were seized and then detained in the camps at Guantanamo Bay, imprisoned for
a crime he didn't commit, and the precise nature of which has never been determined.
The US government labelled him simply "an enemy combatant".
Iraq the Logic of Withdrawl, Anthony Arnove, was £14.99, is £13.49
Arnove lays out a clear vision for the anti-war movement, one that constructivly
involves soldiers, military families, and the many communities affected by the
occupation, who together can build the needed coalition to bring the troops home.
