History of King’s Cross through Sounds and Images with Alan Dein
Date: 16 July
Venue: Centre for Creative Collaboration
Address: 16 Acton Street, London, WC1X 9NG
Time: 12-4pm
This event is FREE but please email hello@londonstreetphotographyfestival.org to book your space.

Alan Dein presents a multi-sensory exploration of King’s Cross Voices using audio, archive photography and guiding a tour of the area’s remarkable transformation from a small settlement on the River Fleet to the massive regeneration of its post-industrial landscape.

Alan will be playing extracts from interviews with generations of King’s Cross people – including railways workers, shop keepers, publicans, squatters, artists, housewives and police officers – all offering a unique insight into the lives and times of ‘the Cross’, and accompanied by rare photographs of its changing street scenes.

Following the presentation, Alan will lead a walking tour around the fascinating backstreets that are so close to the world famous railway stations, but rarely visited by the crowds passing through. Bring your camera – you might be inspired to produce your own images and upload them to our Flickr page after the event.

Oral Historian and Broadcaster, Alan Dein, was the co-ordinator of King’s Cross Voices. To hear and find out more about the collection please visit the website.
Alan Dein’s Sound Map of nearby Caledonian Road can be heard here.
