Ethical Consumer’s Boycott Amazon Campaign
Nice to see that Ethical Consumer has launched a Boycott Amazon campaign. As Housmans has been trying to point out, there are many reasons not to give Amazon your money, and tax avoidance is just the latest in a long list – see our “What is wrong with using Amazon?” page here: http://www.housmans.com/boycottamazon.php.
A boycott not only dents their reputation, but also helps to support other independent shops.
As well as the boycott Ethical Consumer are encouraging people to email Amazon to encourage them to pay their full taxes. Ethical Consumer put the case like this:
“We all have to pay taxes. They fund our schools and hospitals. But some companies aren’t paying their fair share. The UK’s number one tax avoider is Amazon. In 2011 Amazon’s sales in the UK were £2.9 billion but they only paid £1.8 million in corporation tax. Consumer-power can make Amazon pay a fair rate of tax. Let Amazon know you’re boycotting them and email the company using the form at this link: http://www.ethicalconsumer.org/boycotts/boycottamazon/amazonaction.aspx
